Welcome here!

I am a follower of Christ, a wife and a mommy who loves seeing life through the lens.

This is where I share bits and pieces of our life with a bunch of photos thrown in.

Thanks for stopping by!

winter sunday

I welcomed this low key winter Sunday with open arms.

It included some camera fun with the boy.

I dug this camera out yesterday and he’s been having a blast with it.

I received this camera as a gift from John when we were dating more than 11 years ago. It’s a whopping 2 mega pixel!! ;) It even has a video feature…but no sound. lol.

J requested hot chocolate after having just come back from skating.

He snapped this one…

…which inspired this shot.

Prepared with milk…as per request…”the way Auntie Susan does it.”

Later we took Little Missy outside for her first snow experience!

She was somewhat flabbergasted at first.

Notice her standing still in that photo?? Yeah. We don’t get too many of those moments around here. ;)

It didn’t take her long and she was all over it!!

First snow experience = success!

Heading inside after first snow experience = much protesting. ;)

baby J

We interrupt my month-long absence from the blog world to bring you a few photos of a very special little boy!
My niece gave birth to this precious little one on New Year’s day.

Isn’t he the sweetest?

He was sooo well behaved for us. :)

His little hats were crocheted by one very proud grandma!

Here’s a little peek into his room.

One with mama. She’s a natural. :)

And one more of the little man. :)

a week of christmas

9 days and counting.
With 2 advent calendars and one paper chain going, we’re sure not to lose track of when the big day will arrive! ;)

It has felt pretty Christmasy around here this week already.

Monday was gingerbread train day.

The train proved to be a lot less frustrating than the houses we’ve done in previous years! So far only the wheels have…ahem…”disappeared.”

Caroling on Tuesday.

Even Megs got to join in on the fun.

She did have to ride in the cab of the truck instead of the hay wagon though. ;)

Mr. Handsome’s school concert on Thursday.

Now why would any 6 year old boy be so opposed to wearing a button up shirt when it makes him look so cute??

And party time with my high school girlfriends tonight! :)

Despite the broken centerpiece vase and the cream puff filling that flopped, (the main course is yet to be made…!), I’m thinkin’ we’ll have a great night. :)

Have a great weekend! Hope it’s a Christmasy one!

advent

Jonas will be counting down the days with this $2 chocolate calendar.

He set it up in his room last night.

So, for the next month, he will be coming down for breakfast with chocolate breath. ;)

And we will be counting down as a family using this calendar.

Reading the verse together each night at suppertime.

Simple, but I’m hoping it will be meaningful.

I am conscious of the fact that now is the time we are creating memories and traditions that our little family will look back on one day.

How about you? I’d love to hear about any advent traditions you may have.

celebrating one!

Little Miss M turns one tomorrow!

We already celebrated a couple of weekends ago.

Here she is sittin’ pretty…just waitin’ for her guests to arrive. (not that she had any idea she was waiting for them..lol)

We got things underway as soon as everyone had arrived….wanted to make sure cake and presents got done before the birthday girl decided it was time for bed.

Lots of helpers with the gifts. :)

She really had no idea what was going on, but she has been enjoying her new gifts.

Cupcake time.

And guess what? I actually made them from scratch. ;)

Used this yummy recipe for the cupcakes, and this one for the buttercream icing.

Jonas very kindly offered to blow the candle out for her.

And then she proceeded to very calmly eat her cupcake.

I think I was expecting her to get crazy with it, but she ate it very slowly and deliberately.

And then the rest of us got to enjoy.

I had this little album set up with the food…it holds her newborn photos from the hospital.

It contains proof that she did have hair at one point in time. ;)

And seriously, in some ways those pictures felt like yesterday!! You do forget some of the details, but I think there’s some that kind of just stay with you.

Enjoying her new Bible with Grandpa.

And goodie bags….with love, from Megan. :)

We do love this little munchkin.

She has brought an indescribable amount of joy to our home, and her smile has brings joy wherever she goes.

Looking forward to experiencing more craziness with her. :)

snow morning

So, we woke up to a blanket of white.

Peaceful and serene.

Jonas was out the door and in the snow by shortly after 8 am.

And back out later again to shovel.

Little missy spent a good part of the time watching him work.

I do believe I’m ready for this.

Happy that the leaves are hidden by the snow now…no longer calling my name. ;)

I’m ready for some coziness.

Hot chocolate, Christmas music, evenings by the fire.

Ah, yes. :)

the main attraction

She loves these stairs.

And has been known to finagle her way through these chairs and up the stairs.

Today she upped it one. Simply moving the chairs out of her way is a much easier option than crawling through.

Needless to say, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby gate!

celebrating six

This is the story of how we celebrated Jonas turning 6….lego style!

Birthdays are a big deal to our little man.

We don’t just hear about it in the weeks or months leading up to September 21st, we hear about it all year long.

So this year I started brainstorming for his party a little earlier…hoping to avoid throwing things together at the last minute. I scoured the internet and the ideas started coming together in my brain.

I started with a set of lego themed printables found here. (I also loved some of her other ideas and borrowed them for our party!)

Invitations went out the week before the party.

The day of his party, he (and a friend) were met by balloons when they hopped off the bus.

And some decorations at the front door.

And some more decorations and food inside.

Notice the little bowl with the cookies? They looked like lego so I had to include them. :)

The cupcake toppers and all lego decorations were included in the printable kit.

I also loved the cupcake tower I saw on her site so we decided to go that route instead of a cake.  (Jonas was good with that as long as his cupcake would have a lego man on it. ;) )

I cheated and used a cake mix and Betty Crocker icing. Even so, these were a labor of love but I love how they turned out!

As the boys arrived, they went to play in the backyard.

The zip line was the hit of the day!

Then we headed inside and played “build and tell.”

Love their imaginations!

Present time. (which included lots of lego!)

And  then lego pizza time.

At least I thought it looked like lego.

They weren’t all that convinced but they chowed down nonetheless. ;)

Cupcake time.

Then we played lego bingo.

As each boy got bingo, they were able to choose a lego fun pack for their goodie bag. (I found them online at Toys”R”Us for cheap!)

Building the fun packs.

(my sister and niece came to help out with the party which was wonderful! )

Once their creations were done, they were added to their goodie bags.

We then headed to the garage for the final hurrah…a pinata!

I love how the pinata turned out! It was custom made by someone local for a very reasonable price!

Everybody left with some sugar to add to their goodie bags.

And that was that.

One tired, happy 6 year old, and one tired, happy mama. :)

little monster on the move

We call her that with utmost fondness. ;)

But the truth of it is, she is one crazy little girl!

She turned 9 months, and all of a sudden she is go, go, go.

Favorite past times include munching on paper from the magazine rack, crawling up stairs and tumbling back down, and splashing in the tub.

She has trouble written all over her, don’t you think??  ;)

She says “mama, dada, wow”….and tries to repeat other words and sounds she hears.

She has a huge voice and isn’t afraid to use it.

I have a feeling life is just going to get more interesting in this household. :)

grade one

The big day finally arrived.

After a breakfast of Nesquick cereal and milk, (which he couldn’t finish…too excited), a bit of silly time with Megs, a phone call from daddy, and 2 hugs (one from me, one from me for daddy), he was out the door.

With this packed in his lunch box. (my lens was having focusing issues…this blurry photo is the best I got!)

He was just a tad excited! ;)

We snapped a few more photos.

This girlie is going to miss him something fierce!!

“Bye-bye.”

Then he assured me I didn’t need to walk him to the road to meet the bus.

I most assuredly DID want to walk him to the bus, but I knew he wanted to do it on his own.

So, Megs and I watched and waited a little closer to the house while he walked out to the bus stop on his own, 15 minutes early.

He’ll be home in a few minutes….I was not given any instructions on whether or not I was allowed to meet him at the bus.

I’ll be there. ;)
